"Ruby and Buddy" 4-28-10
This pair came to us when a young
couple added an infant to their toddler and decided the mix
wasn't going to work. While they came in together, it is
not a requirement that they be placed together, although that
would be very nice.
Ruby has been adopted. 5-1-10
Ruby is a 4 year old female, on
the left, who is always looking for approval and for permission
to come inside. She is very active and only wants you to love
her. Early suggestions of food aggression simply are not
present with my 3 Cairns. She gets along with all of them.

Buddy has a now home in Oregon 6-6-10
Buddy is a 7 year old male.
He is very loving, and vocal. He does more than bark, he
will talk to you to tell you he is very happy. There is
possibly a serious issue with his eyes. We have an
appointment with a specialist next week to sort things out.
****
Buddy - The
follow-up. We have been to a Canine eye specialist.
The diagnosis is "Dry Eye".
The doctor was surprised that I didn't report the he was bumping
into things. Well, he is not. He is happy, active
and does about everything I expect. It does explain why he
doesn't catch a biscuit thrown his way, he doesn't catch it but
he doesn't miss it either. It also explains why he doesn't use
the dog door. He doesn't see through the flap to know he can
push it aside.
The prognosis is that he might get slightly better with treatment but only slightly. It is a lifelong condition.
The treatment - for now a 2X daily ointment for eyes, a 1X daily antibiotic, and a night time treatment for artificial tears. He is very patient and puts up with the daily treatment.
His med will run about $50-80/month, plus a follow up with the specialist every 6 months.

"Trinket" 4-28-10
Trinket came to us when her owner died. She is a 7 year old female in need of grooming and weight reduction. She is currently in Orangevale under going Glenda's special spa treatment. She should be a lot slimmer and less hairy in a month or so.

"Jerry"
Jerry has
a new home in Merced.
1-6-10
Ch.Rossarden Jeroboam.. Jerry is a very active AKC registered Cairn
who came to this country from England in 1997 with a pedigree a
mile long, make that kilometers, he is English. Yes, that means
he is 12 years old. However, he is a very active and expressive
12 year old. His favorite companion today is Corky, who is 10
years younger.
Jerry is one of three dogs we got from the family of a club
member who is no longer able to care for them. When he showed
up, he had a reputation of not getting along with a former male
member of his kennel. When he first got here, I wondered how he
would get along with 4 neutered males, ages from 2-14. Once the
preliminary sniffs were dealt with, they all understood where
they fit in the pack and they get along fine. There has not
been a single confrontation. Jerry fits right in and is loving
his time with the pack.
Jerry has had excellent and recent vet care. Today, he is
stripped down but his coat will come back in hard and
weatherproof. His former kennel mates have been placed so he is
now looking for a new home. He is healthily and active, used to
going on frequent walks. For those who want a smaller dog,
Jerry is a trim 14 pounds. He looks the part of an idea Toto.
He would be an excellent companion for a senior citizen who
wants a dog that is long past the idiot teenage years.
He did live in a house that had cats but I don't think they were
ever introduced so I don't know how he gets along with cats. He
obviously gets along with dogs and people. He looks for
attention and would love to have that new home.

Champ has a new home. He was under 23# when he left. By the time he is finished with this course of dieting, he should be 19-20#. He is a healthier and happy boy.

Thank you to those wonderful adopters who stepped up and adopted a dog when we had that sudden influx of 10 dogs. We placed the dogs in a relatively short time, in spite of age and occasional health issues.
A special "Thank You" to the Ad Hoc Rescue Committee of Gloria Kregowski, Mike and Pat White, and Glenda Holland, who handled the difficult issue of securing and transporting them, plus all of the love and affection they supplied while these guys were cleaned up, vetted and allowed to be real dogs again.
