Why this statement is here

This website is published on a domain that was previously used by the Cairn Terrier Club of Northern California. The club now publishes at a different address, and this domain was subsequently registered by someone else — us. We have no relationship with the club, past or present.

That history creates an obvious risk of confusion, and we would rather deal with it head-on than let anyone assume otherwise. So: we do not use the club's name as our identity, we do not use its initials to describe ourselves, we do not reproduce its newsletters, bylaws, code of ethics, meeting minutes or membership material, we do not publish the names of its officers, members or volunteers, and we do not list its events. Nothing that belonged to the club appears here.

If you arrived looking for the club — to renew a membership, ask about an event, request breeder referral, or reach its rescue contact — you want cairnterrierclubnorcal.org, and we are sorry for the detour.

What this site is

An independent, plainly written reference about the Cairn Terrier: where the breed came from, what it is like, how to look after its coat and its health, how to train it, and how the two honest routes to owning one — a responsible breeder or breed rescue — actually work. It is written for people researching the breed, not for people already inside it.

What this site is not

• Not a club. There is no membership, no committee, no subscription and no events calendar.
• Not a rescue. We cannot take in, foster, transport or place a dog, and we have none available. Our rescue page exists to explain how breed rescue works and to point you to organisations that can actually help.
• Not a breeder or a referral service. We keep no breeder list and recommend no kennel. We do not sell dogs and we have no financial relationship with anyone who does.
• Not a veterinary service. Everything on the health page is general breed information. Your own veterinarian is the only person who can advise on your dog.
• Not a shop. Nothing here is for sale.

Editorial policy

Everything on this site is written for it. We do not republish archived material from any previous occupant of this domain, and we do not copy breed-club literature. Where an official document exists — a breed standard, a health-screening protocol — we describe it in our own words and link to the organisation that publishes and maintains it, rather than reproducing text that is theirs and that gets revised.

We do not make claims about specific breeders, kennels, clubs, veterinarians or individuals. We do not publish photographs of identifiable people or of other people's dogs. Outbound links are checked before publication to confirm they return real content, and they are chosen for reliability — veterinary schools, specialist veterinary colleges, national registries and parent clubs — not for reciprocity. Nobody pays for a mention here, and there is no advertising or affiliate arrangement on the site.

Where breed lore is traditional rather than documented — the older origin stories in particular — we say so rather than presenting it as settled fact. See the history page for an example.

Corrections

Breed writing accumulates errors, and we would rather fix ours. If something here is wrong, out of date, or unfair to an organisation we have named, we will correct it. That specifically includes anything on this site that could be read as claiming a connection we do not have.

Privacy

We do not run a contact form, collect email addresses, operate a mailing list, or ask visitors for personal information of any kind. There is nothing here to sign up for, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
